MULTAN: Mufti Abdul Qawi who had been nominated in the Qandeel Baloch murder case, had gone into hiding, police claimed on Monday.
Sources said that the police claimed that Mufti Qawi had gone underground and his phone numbers were unresponsive. The police stated that a team had been formed to arrest the cleric nominated in the murder case of the model Qandeel. Mufti Qawi had been nominated on the orders of the judiciary.
In another instance, the suspects arrested in the Qandeel’s murder case, Waseem, Haq Nawaz and Basit would be presented before the court here on Monday.
Qandeel was a controversial model and social media personality who was famous for her bold Facebook posts. She was murdered last month allegedly by her brother Waseem, who confessed to the crime and claimed that he had murdered his sister for ‘honour.’
Waseem had named his cousin Haq Nawaz as an accomplice in the murder while he had also disclosed that it was suspect Basit’s car which they used to flee after killing Qandeel. Police had also questioned Mufti Qawi in connection with the model’s murder case, since she had been killed a couple of days after their pictures on social media surfaced in which the cleric was seen with the model.
The police had also sent a questionnaire to Mufti Qawi which contained inquiries regarding the murder. He had claimed that after receiving his answers, police had given him a clean chit but this claim had been denied by the Multan police.
