LARKANA: The communities of Bhutto and Mirani clashed when a woman of Bhutto community was brought to Naundero Police Station on Friday by Mirani community people for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl Arbeli Mirani.
The Miranis wanted police to lodge a report against the said Bhutto woman. But Ghaffar Bhutto, brother of a personal assistant of local MPA Muhammad Ali Bhutto, was already present in the police station with WHC and intervened to get the Bhutto woman released. This dispute turned violent and the police had to do aerial firing and use tear gas to disperse them, consequently Faiz Muhammad, an uncle of the minor girl Arbeli who was being kidnapped, got injured who was rushed to Larkana’s Chandka Hospital.
The Miranis alleged that the police sided with influential people of Bhutto community. When the situation worsened and went out of control, the area police informed the SSP Larkana Kamran Nawaz who arrived along with the cops of Garhi Khux and Mahotta stations and APC to control the situation after three hours.
The Mirani community held massive protest demonstration at Larkana-Sukkur road near the police station, burnt tyres and chanted slogans against the PA of the MPA who pressurized the police to release the woman.
The woman was identified as Majeedan Bhutto and she was accompanied by young Sarang Bhutto, both residents of Garhi Khuda Bux. SSP Larkana Kamran Nawaz held 2-hour talks with the elders of both the communities to resolve the issue.
However, Kamran blamed the local media for creating unnecessary hype. He said so far mentally challenged people have been handed over to police against whom kidnapping allegations have been leveled by affected parties. SSP confessed that the situation remained uncontrolled due to low number of cops posted in Naundero. The police did not arrest anybody, nor registered FIR of the incident.
