ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday announced his new legal team to contest the Panamagate case in the Supreme Court.
Talking to reporters at his Bani Gala residence, Kaptaan said, “We really appreciate everything that Hamid Khan has done for the party, and there was a lot of pressure on him. We have decided to announce a team comprising of 4 members for the legal proceedings who will then appoint other people as per need.” “We have Naeem Bokhari, Babar Awan, Sikander and Maleeka Bokhari who has previously worked with Hamid Khan as well,” he added.
“From tomorrow on, we will start preparing for the upcoming case hearing. Our initial petition was filed by Naeem Bokhari, and he will lead the legal proceedings along with regular legal party consultations and strategic team meetings,” he said. To a question, he said that Hamid Khan has been with the PTI for the last 20 years and will continue to be an important part of the party.
“This is not Imran Khan’s personal case; this is Pakistan’s case and as an opposition party, we are raising our voice for it and facilitating the courts as much as we can; we don’t have accountability instituted at our disposal. Panama Papers exposed corruption on an international level,” Kaptaan said. He questioned sudden entry of a Qatari prince in the Panama Leaks case against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family.
“On three different occasions, Nawaz Sharif did not remember the Qatari prince. So where did this come out all of a sudden? PML-N representatives tried their best to spin the case by finding the loopholes (which they couldn’t) for the past 7 months, in an attempt to come off as clean over the corruption allegation. We have collected a lot of evidence, but it is up to our lawyers as to what they deem pivotal for the court proceedings,” he stated.
Meanwhile, counsel for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Hamid Khan has decided not to represent the PTI chief any longer in the disqualification reference filed against him [Imran] in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The reference seeking disqualification of Imran Khan and Jehangir Tareen came up for hearing before the ECP on Tuesday. Instead, Naeem Bukhari appeared before the ECP and sought time from the commission to file reply. However, Jehangir Tareen submitted his reply before the ECP. Later, the ECP adjourned the case until December 5.
